Experts warn as popularity of nicotine pouches skyrocket

Nicotine pouches are the next product using fun flavors and advertising to hook Australians to nicotine, according to experts. Though illegal to import, their popularity has skyrocketed nationally in recent years and are now available in stores right across the country. Experts worry young Australians may switch from one vice to another with nicotine pouches being a likely replacement. The fruity-flavoured pouches are tobacco free but still loaded with nicotine – with some containing the equivalent of ten packets of cigarettes. From 2022 to 2023, the seizure of nicotine pouches at the Australian border exploded from just over 108,000 units to almost 3.5 million.
