Exploding transformer leaves Pine residents shocked
Scores of Barbadians were left without electricity this afternoon. Some in the Pine, St. Michael area were left scampering and shocked as a transformer exploded on a pole just outside the Parkinson Memorial School. A resident who gave her name as Anansa, says she was at home when the ground suddenly began shaking. Another resident says he was in bed watching the US Elections, and thought the noise was an earthquake. CBC received reports from customers experiencing outages in Christ Church, St. Philip, St. George, St. Michael, St. Thomas and St. John. A release from the Barbados Light & Power says following investigations, a fault was found at St. Barnabas on the 24 kV line. Power has already been restored to some customers, but crews continue to work on safely restoring power to those still impacted as soon as possible. Customers were also urged to lodge all emergency reports to 626-9000.
