The long-awaited final report of a public inquiry into the devastating 2017 London Grenfell Tower blaze that killed 72 people was released on Wednesday, laying responsibility for the disaster on the companies involved. The fire, which ripped through the 23-story social housing block in one of London's richest areas on June 14, 2017, was Britain's deadliest blaze in a residential building since the Second World War. "The simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable," said inquiry chair Martin Moore-Bick. “Those who lived in the tower were badly failed over a number of years and in a number of different ways by those who were responsible for ensuring the safety of the building and its occupants." Following the report’s release, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer apologized on behalf of the state to the victims and families affected. Describing it as a “day of truth,” Starmer added that the report must now lead to “a day of justice” and a “moment to reflect” on the state of current social justice across the country. Hisam Choucair, a relative of one of the victims, described the inquiry as being "forced” on the families and said that they were not consulted. “To some, it gives answers, and to some, it doesn't do anything except put that extra nail in the coffin.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/10732149/grenfell-tower-fire-inquiry-report/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #UK #Grenfell
