In this week's edition of Facing South Florida: CBS News Miami's Jim DeFede interviews State Representative Danny Perez, whose district includes portions of Miami-Dade County. Representative Perez, a Republican, will be the next Speaker of the Florida House. The two discuss, what was and was not accomplished in the 2024 Florida legislative session and look ahead to the 2025 session when Representative Perez will have a leadership role. Plus, after ignoring the issue for years, in its 2024 session the Florida legislature began to address the mental health crisis in the criminal justice system.
