Fairfield mayor ‘agrees’ with Peter Dutton’s Australia Day citizenship ceremony mandate

Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone discusses an election pledge by Peter Dutton mandating citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day. “I think councils should be holding citizenship ceremonies either at the very least on the night before … or on the day itself.” Mr Carbone told Sky News Australia. “Here in Fairfield, we do it on the day itself, and we find that it works – so we are pretty pro-Australia Day and citizenship ceremonies on the actual day. “I agree in theory that it should be done on Australia Day, but perhaps there should be a slight little bit of leeway if it can’t be done on that day, perhaps to do it the night before.”
