‘Fantastic idea’: Superannuation to be paid on Commonwealth paid parental leave

ACTU Assistant Secretary Joseph Mitchell says the announcement superannuation would be paid on Commonwealth parental leave is a “fantastic idea”. Superannuation will be paid on the 20 weeks of government-funded parental leave from July next year, Minister for Women Katy Gallagher said during her address to the National Press Club on Thursday. “It’s a fantastic idea,” Mr Mitchell told Sky News Australia. “It fixes a historic gender retirement gap that’s existed since Commonwealth paid parental leave was introduced. “Paid parental leave is the only form of leave which superannuation isn’t paid upon.”
