Far right’s gains in France election will lead to unpredictability, political gridlock: Analyst

Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally (RN) party scored historic gains to win the first round of France's parliamentary election on Sunday (Jun 30), according to exit polls. The final result will depend on days of horsetrading before next week's run-off. President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to call snap elections has “backfired in major ways”, says Jorn Fleck, senior director of think tank Atlantic Council’s Europe Center.
