Jasper and the neighboring Jasper National Park, famous for postcard-perfect mountain views, were menaced by fires from both the north and south. Alberta Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen said many of the fires were caused by lightning. About 176 wildfires were burning across the province, including 54 which were burning out of control.
