Nearly a decade ago, a dam collecting the waste products from a mining site in southern Brazil burst releasing a rush of dangerous sludge into the Doce River. 19 people were killed, and it remains one of the country’s worst environmental disasters. Next month nearly 700,000 claimants will seek compensation in the English courts, making it one the largest group claims in British legal history. Rachel Townsend travelled to Brazil to find out more and to meet those still severely impacted by the tragedy.
