Fiji needs help to fight climate change – and it wants Canada to step up

Pacific island nations are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change – and least able to afford the consequences. Yet such countries are responsible for just 0.03 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. Flooding, coastal erosion and rising sea levels are a constant threat, and while wealthier countries – like Canada – have pledged to help countries like Fiji withstand the impacts of climate change, the funds have not appeared quickly enough. Global’s Megan King was recently on assignment in Fiji, with the help of the Gordon Sinclair Foundation. She heard from community leaders who are calling on nations like Canada to do more.
