Fire devastates historic sections of Vancouver Island's Telegraph Cove
Fire crews were called to a huge blaze in Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island Tuesday morning, leaving parts of the resort community in smouldering ruins. Port McNeill Fire Chief Dean Tait said the call came in at 5:27 a.m. PT and crews could see huge flames and smoke over the mountain as they drove to the fire. “Multiple houses, multiple buildings, the museum, the restaurant,” he said about the extent of the damage, noting many of the buildings were historic. Telegraph Cove is a small community on northeastern Vancouver Island, located south of Port Hardy. It is known for its whale-watching opportunities and eco-tourism. Global's Rumina Daya has the latest from the small community, where many businesses and attractions were destroyed.
