NASA’s spacecraft OSIRIS APEX, formerly known as OSIRIS-REx, has been relaunching to study the asteroid Apophis, also known as the “God of Chaos,” as it nears Earth’s orbit. In 2029, Apophis will pass within 20,000 miles of Earth, closer than many satellites, offering a unique opportunity for research. The spacecraft will analyze surface changes, map the asteroid, and study its chemical composition, shedding light on planetary formation processes.
