Parliament will shortly debate legislation for a five-year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for anyone convicted of gun crimes. The announcement was made by Attorney General, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin during an exclusive interview with ABS News. Sir Steadroy says the Government respects the principle of separation of powers, therefore judges would apply this mandatory sentence as they see fit. The Attorney General says the administration will be relentless and resolute, as the spate of violent crimes requires a tougher legislative response. Theresa Goodwin reports.
