Florida aquarium moves penguins to higher floor ahead of hurricane | ABS-CBN News

An aquarium in Florida relocated nine African penguins from their home on the first floor, to a higher, safer floor ahead of Hurricane Milton which is set to make landfall on Wednesday (October 9). Several other animals including a smack of moon jellies, six snakes, three lizards, three turtles, two alligators, two toads and a hermit crab were also moved as safeguard precaution as the aquarium prepares for any 'tidal surge that may affect the building.' Some areas of central Florida will get up to 18 inches of rain with a "high risk of life-threatening flash and urban flooding" in metro areas of Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach, according to the National Hurricane Centre. Evacuation orders have been given in low-lying areas and other vulnerable communities in six counties around Tampa Bay that are home to nearly 4 million people.
