Kanaan Mohamed, arrested in Aleppo in 2006, spent six years in prison, including 3.5 years in Sednaya prison near Damascus, which was known in Syria as a 'human slaughterhouse'. He describes brutal torture, including electric shocks, forced nudity, and being bent with a car tyre for beatings. Torture was relentless, with no pause between strikes, followed by further rounds, termed the "entrance ceremony." Prisoners were blindfolded and forced pushed down stairs, often falling in a chain reaction. The psychological trauma was amplified by hearing others being tortured. Saydnaya's methods overshadowed earlier abuses in other prisons in Syria, leaving lasting scars.
