Former Olympian Richard Louis passes away

Former Barbados Track Star and Olympian Richard Louis, has passed away at the age of 60. Louis was a member of the Barbados 16-hundred metre relay quartet, who were the first ever athletes running under the Barbados flag, to qualify for an Olympic final at the 1984 Olympiad in Los Angeles. Louis also competed at the 1988 games in Seoul. Earlier in his career, he took the Austin Sealy award for the most outstanding athlete at the 1980 CARIFTA Games in Bermuda, winning two gold medals in the 200 metres, and 400 metres, while gaining a silver in the 100 in the under 17 category. He then won a silver medal at the CAC junior championships in 1982 in Barbados. Louis was also a cricketer, representing the USA as a fast bowler. President of Olympians Barbados, Freida Nicholls, extended condolences to the family, friends and members of the athletic fraternity. Louis passed away in Florida this morning.
