Former US President Jimmy Carter dies aged 100

Jimmy Carter, the longest-living American president, has died at the age of 100. The Georgia-born Democrat was the 39th leader of the United States. He then went on to have a decades-long career devoted to humanitarian causes. In 2002, he became the first ex-US president to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. US President Joe Biden has declared Jan 9 a national day of mourning for Mr Carter. The former US leader was also remembered for establishing diplomatic relations with China.
