The Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) has resumed its operations to dispose of impounded illegal fishing gear across various lakes in Uganda. According to Maj. Frank Kanzira, the operations officer for the FPU, the initiative began at Lake Kyoga, where they are set to destroy illegal fishing gear worth millions of shillings that were impounded during previous operations. This operation comes at a time when fishing communities around Uganda's water bodies are concerned about the scarcity of Nile perch in the lakes. Meanwhile, fishers are urged to cooperate with the FPU enforcement team as they work to achieve the common goal of conserving Uganda's natural resources.
