Today is being celebrated as Jackie Opel Day in Barbados. Born Dalton Bishop, Jackie Opel was a singer/composer and known as the creator of spouge music. He would have turned 86 today. To celebrate his achievements a free concert is being held at the Golden Square Freedom Park tonight. Some of the island's favourite artistes will be on stage with new arrangements as efforts continue to keep his memory alive. Entertainer Desmond Weekes is among those who will be paying tribute. Speaking on Mornin' Barbados he said he was pleased with the interest being shown by young people in reviving the indigenous artform. Also performing is entertainer Simon Pipe.
