Funeral services held for Arkansas deputy fatally shot while serving arrest warrant

#Family, #friends, Arkansas #lawmakers, and members of the country's #lawenforcement community showed up Saturday to memorialize a #deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this week. #StoneCounty Deputy Justin Smith, 60, was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon while attempting to serve an arrest warrant at a home about five miles north of #Mountain View, state police said Wednesday. Police said Smith was at the home on Sawmill Road to serve Clinton Hefton with a misdemeanor terroristic threatening warrant. Early evidence indicates that 52-year-old Hefton resisted arrest and shot at Smith who was found dead by officers responding to reports of shots fired, the state's top law enforcement agency said. Officers later took Hefton into custody at the home after a brief standoff, state police said. Hefton was charged with capital murder and is being held at the #CleburneCounty Jail without bond. The #jail’s inmate roster indicated Hefton will have a #court appearance Jan. 18.
