Gaza babies are conflict's tiniest victims
The smallest victims of conflict - babies - often bear the brunt of the hardships, and infants in Gaza are no exception. With more than half of Gaza's population crammed into the southern city of Rafah, caring for the young becomes a daily struggle. At Rafah's Emirates Hospital, premature and frail newborns must share a limited number of incubators, and a doctor says the practice is causing diseases to spread. "In every incubator we have about four or three infants, and of course that affects their health," Dr. Amal Ismail said. Two or three newborns die every shift, she said; formerly, a month would pass with only one or two infant deaths. A shortage of disposable diapers in Rafah has driven prices through the roof, with a packet of Pampers selling for up to $55 in the markets. A bridal shop switched from bridal gowns to diapers, which workers make with recycled protective clothing from the COVID era. They can sell an eight-pack for $4. The shop owner said he wanted to help people and "lessen the struggle." #IsraelHamasConflict #Rafah #GazaBabies #Diapers Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, tablet or mobile https://cgtnamerica.vhx.tv/videos/hd-live-broadcasts Subscribe to CGTN America on YouTube Follow CGTN America: Twitter: @cgtnamerica Facebook: @cgtnamerica Instagram: @cgtnamerica TikTok: @newstoks This material is distributed by MediaLinks TV, LLC on behalf of CCTV.
