Gaza ceasefire deal is 'on the brink', US president Joe Biden says

Talks are underway in Qatar aimed at finalising a ceasefire deal between Israel and Gaza. The deal would also see the release of a number of hostages held by Hamas and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. It could bring an end to more than 15 months of fighting, triggered by Hamas' attack on Israel on 7 October, 2023. In his very final days as US president, Joe Biden has indicated that a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas could be imminent.
