A potential turning point for the war in Gaza has emerged after Israel said on Thursday (Oct 17) that it killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, mastermind of the Oct 7, 2023 attack which triggered the conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “the beginning of the end” of the war in Gaza, but vowed to press on with the military offensive until all hostages are released. Ryan Bohl, senior Middle East analyst from global risk intelligence firm RANE Network, tells CNA’s Asia First that it is “very unlikely” Sinwar’s assassination will bring an end to hostilities.
