General Jack Keane weighs in on Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire
Former US Army vice chief of staff General Jack Keane expresses cautious optimism over Israel and Hezbollah's ceasefire deal in Lebanon. The agreement stipulates an initial 60-day halt to the fighting that has claimed thousands of Lebanese lives and displaced over a million people. “I think it has a fair chance to it for a couple of reasons,”Mr Kean told Sky News host Steve Price. “One is, the Israelis had a very limited objective here. Other like in Gaza, which was to defeat Hamas and destroy as many of the fighters as possible, and they defeated them, and they're winding that down now, the objective here was limited. “It really was to clear Hezbollah out of the southern part of Lebanon, and also that Hezbollah would not fire into northern Israel. There was no thought that they would go in and try to defeat the entire Hezbollah organization.”
