Geopolitical conflicts driving up shipping costs

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has told a global forum small island developing states (SIDS) are being impacted, as traditional shipping routes have now become war zones. She says as a result, the cost has been driven up for carriers and importers. Ms. Mottley's comments came at the opening of the inaugural Global Supply Chain Forum at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. The conference was organised by UN Trade and Development, in collaboration with the Government of Barbados. By hosting this forum, Barbados aims to position itself as a hub for supply chain excellence and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the region. Meanwhile, Secretary General of UN Trade and Development, Rebeca Grynspan says all countries, regardless of size and status have a voice in shaping the global supply chain.
