Victorian Opposition leader John Pesutto has slammed the state’s Labor government for their “ideological opposition” to gas, which will see more households exposed to outages and has called on them to “get serious” about energy. Three bushfires continue to burn in Victoria’s west and central regions on Wednesday. Almost 500,000 were without electricity on Tuesday night, and over 250,000 remained without power on Wednesday morning. “It means, one, that the energy infrastructure towers and the like are more resilient to storm weather, and, secondly, it means that we’ve got options,” Mr Pesutto told Sky News Australia. “Let’s all remember that yesterday, gas was supplying about 25 to 30 per cent of the state’s energy years. “The government has this ideological opposition to gas, which is going to see more and more Victorian households and businesses exposed to this kind of outage experience, and it’s not fair on them, and the government needs to get serious about it.”
