Hancock Prospecting Executive Chairman Dr Gina Rinehart has addressed The Australian’s Bush Summit in Portland Hedland. Dr Rinehart said taxes are “killing the geese which lays the golden eggs”. “The government taxes that were meant to be dropped when GST came in … if such taxes were dropped, companies could operate longer and retain their staff for longer too. “Let’s take an example – payroll tax. Australia exports some 950 million tonnes of iron ore per annum, translating to approximately $700 million in payroll tax from WA producers. “Dropping that $700 million payroll tax is the equivalent of enabling an opportunity to save approximately 3,500 jobs and, of course, the revenue those employees could produce.”
