Girls resort to unusual menstrual alternatives

Odd as it may sound in the 21st century, some girls in Buyala Village, Budondo sub-county in Jinja city are using polythene bags filled with soil as an alternative to sanitary towels or pads during their menstrual periods. Others use sponges cut from old mattresses. Health experts warn that these rudimentary sanitary towels can expose the girls to infections.
