Global National: Dec. 14, 2024 | ‘GST Holiday’ officially begins in Canada
The “GST holiday” tax break promised by the Canadian government is officially in effect, continuing for the next two months. As Candace Daniel reports, business owners are hoping to see an increase in sales as a result of the change to make up for the slump often seen in January and February. Changing the clock twice a year might come to an end under the second Trump administration. On his social media website Friday, president-elect Donald Trump wrote that his party will use “its best efforts” to eliminate Daylight Saving Time. He added that it’s “inconvenient and very costly to our nation.” Bianca Facchinei reports. Joy and relief after the most serious threat to South Korean democracy in almost 40 years. South Korean lawmakers voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol for declaring martial law. Yeol claims political opposition was working with North Korea. After the vote, Yeol vowed to never give up. Late in the season, Helene and Milton caused major damage from Florida to North Carolina, but much earlier Beryl ripped through the Caribbean.
