Investigators say five people were killed, including a nine-year-old girl, in an attack in Germany when a car rammed into a crowd at a Christmas market. More than 200 others were injured, 40 of whom are in critical condition. And more is being revealed about the man police have arrested — but there are still questions about what might have motivated the apparent attack. Bianca Facchinei has the details. Plus, the question gripping Ottawa is whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will stay on as leader? The stunning resignation of Chrystia Freeland on Monday sent shockwaves through the nation's capital. Now, all opposition parties are calling for him to step down. So far, the prime minister has been quiet on his future. But if he does decide to bow out, who will take over and what will that process look like? David Akin takes a look. Plus, there are winter weather warnings in effect across Canada. A section of B.C.'s coast is facing a strong wind advisory, and parts of Ontario and Quebec are expecting extreme cold. But it's a nor'easter that has most of the Atlantic provinces on notice — especially Nova Scotia, which could have its first white Christmas in almost a decade. Angela Capobianco reports. The Alberta government has delivered its plan for a modernized coal mining policy, just in time for Christmas. It includes a ban on new, open-pit mines on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. However, the new rules won't apply to a proposed coal mine a few hours south of Calgary, which has been a source of tension between the province and landowners. Sarah Offin explains. In Kenya, protests erupted earlier this month, as demonstrators demanded action against a rising tide of femicide, which is the killing of women and girls. Since September, more than 7,100 cases of sexual and gender-based violence against women have been reported, leading to the creation of a new specialized police unit. As Neetu Garcha reports, the crisis has also sparked conversations about systemic failures in women's safety — not only in Kenya, but in Canada as well.
