Good news for local fisherfolk, as Government has decided to extend the Business Interruption Fund they have been benefitting from since the passage of Hurricane Beryl, for an additional three months. Confirmation of this from Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy Adrian Forde. Initially, the Fund was set for three months after over 200 fishing vessels were damaged as the Category 5 hurricane passed Barbados on July 1. However, according to Minister Forde, Cabinet has made a determination that the payouts for boat owners, captains and crew members, will continue for a while longer. Regarding additional efforts to further secure the industry, Minister Forde says work on the breakwater in the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex has begun in earnest. The Minister advises those who have not been able to access the Fund to visit the Barbados Fisheries Division to complete the process.
