The government has announced the release of Sh. 31.3B for the State Department of Basic Education. The breakdown is Sh.4.47B allocated for term one of the free primary education, Shs 7.60 billion as capitation for term one of Junior Secondary Schools, Shs 2.80 billion for school examination and invigilation fees and Shs 16.20 billion for free day secondary education. This comes as long queues at bookstores and uniform shops are being witnessed in different parts of the country ahead of the reopening of schools next week. This comes even as parents lament over the high cost of living. The parents expressed fears that their children would be sent back home over lack of complete school fees. Meanwhile, some parents are raising the alarm over the failed release of bursary cheques.
