Government moving to regulate domestic maritime industry
Government has introduced legislation to ensure vessel-related and watersports activities are conducted in a safe and sustainable manner. The legislation, the Shipping Domestic Vessels Bill, is currently before the Lower House. Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill says the existing Shipping Act does not align to international maritime standards. He says the small vessel sector remains a tremendous asset and the Shipping Domestic Vessels Bill recognises its importance and contribution. He provided insight into what the legislation covers, and notes the Bill paves the way for the re-branding of the shipping section under his Ministry.
