Government set to abolish House of Lords hereditary peers
The prime minister says the right to sit and vote in the House of Lords simply by birthright is an "indefensible" principle and the government is currently legislating to end hereditary peers for good. Currently there are 88 men who have inherited their title from their parents sitting in the parliament, most of which are Conservatives. Sky's political correspondent Serena Barker-Singh spoke to the Earl of Devon, who has one of the oldest hereditary peerages. He says the role is part of the country's "heritage and culture".
