Government working to expand access to early childhood education
Government is making good on its promise to expand access to early childhood education to Barbadians from the age of three, over the next three years. Currently, it provides education to students between the ages of 5 and 16. Education Minister Kay McConney notes a plan is in the works to have a Centre of Excellence or a Lab school, which will focus on STREAM education through play-based learning. That means emphasis will be placed on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Her comments came at the launch of a two-day Early Childhood Development Symposium at Solidarity House. The Education Minister adds teaching must evolve beyond the traditional approach and concepts.
