Greater demand for local art outside Barbados
There's greater demand for locally produced art pieces overseas, than in Barbados. This is according to Lecturer of Business Law and International Business at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Ayanna Young-Marshall. The finding is based on research being done by the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management, on the international business operations of artists. Ms. Young-Marshall says while the global arts market is valued at 65 billion dollars, Barbados still lacks the infrastructure to ensure art can be big business. She was addressing the official opening of the NIFCA 2024 Visual Arts Exhibition. The exhibit at the Queen's Park Gallery and Steel Shed featured the work of this year's award winners in fine art, fine craft and photography. The University Lecturer has offered a number of steps artists should bear in mind, including developing their own unique style.
