Nationals Senator Matt Canavan has slammed the Greens for their “cheap and lazy solutions” to Australia’s problems. Labor’s primary vote has slumped to its lowest level since the 2022 election, according to the latest Newspoll. Support for Labor has fallen by one per cent to 31 per cent, while the Coalition’s primary vote remains steady at 38 per cent. “You can tell the Greens now they’ve basically dropped climate change as a political issue – you hardly ever hear them talk about it outside of Canberra,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Paul Murray. “On the streets around Brisbane and where they’re trying to win seats, they’ve really only got one policy, and that’s rent control. “If we’re offering a proper, coherent set of responses to people, it’s more likely to be the antidote to those cheap and lazy solutions like rent control.”
