Growing waitlist for mammograms
More women appear to be heeding the call to get checked for breast cancer. The result has been a growing waitlist for mammograms at the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society. The revelation was made by Medical Coordinator, Dr. Shirley Jhagroo. Dr. Jhagroo was speaking as CIBC First Caribbean International Bank presented the programme with a cheque for $200,000, the proceeds of last year's fundraising efforts. The bank's Managing Director, Donna Wellington, said they included the popular Walk For the Cure, a coin drive for customers and a highly successful online banking option for donors. The funds will be used to upgrade the programme's 20 year old PACS system, which is where medical images are stored. The installation, which should be done in the next two months, will be done at a cost of US $250,000, payable over a period of three years.
