Guardian of the People

This Guardians of the People segment is quite different from any other we've done before. A 53-year-old mother of 5 is not asking for assistance but rather... pleading for staff in the public health sector to improve their quality of care.  The woman who asked to remain anonymous claims she had to watch their callous and uncaring attitude towards her son as he slowly died under their watch.   However, the South Western Regional Health Authority said while it commiserates with the mother, it claims her son was cared for by at least 5 medical speciality teams. It added that clinical staff were always present with the appropriate thoughtfulness and care.  Concerning the insensitive phone call the mother received, the SWRHA said that there is no evidence to suggest it came from a hospital staff member as the call was made from a blocked number.  Akash Samaroo and Timothy Chasteau bring us her story.
