Guyana's Mining Sector To Continue Expansion

Guyana says it will not let its growth in the oil and gas sector hinder its continued exploration of its natural resources that has been known for decades. Speaking at the Guyana Energy Conference, Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources, Vikram Bharrat, pointed out that Guyana employs 23,000 people alone from its mining sector. But he said despite oil and gas taking a step on the front burner, others sectors would not be left behind. He also echoed sentiments of T&T Energy Minister Stuart Young that to push towards renewable energy is far too costly for the Caribbean.
