Haiti floods: At least 7 dead, 500 homes destroyed in disaster aftermath
Floods in Haiti’s Port-de-Paix killed at least seven people, a Haitian police report said on Monday. Close to 500 homes were destroyed and 11,000 buildings were flooded in the central part of the city, the report added. “I've never dealt with a situation such as this in my work, and during all my time working with the Red Cross we've never seen an event of this scale,” Regional Red Cross co-ordinator Gabart Imbert said. “The water came into my house, I couldn't sleep. I tried removing the water, but it was too much inside. I had to do some chores, I lost a lot of things but my bedroom was under water," a local resident said. Police deployed cleaning crews to remove mud from the street and said they were mobilizing volunteer rescue teams in response to the disaster.
