Harris marks anniversary of Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel | ABS-CBN News

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris commemorated the first anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war on Monday (October 7), by planting a pomegranate tree at the Vice President’s residence. “I am devastated by the pain and loss that occurred on October 7, and Doug and I pray for the family and loved ones of all of those who were lost, and may their memories be a blessing,” Harris said in remembrance of the victims. She emphasized that the U.S. government must also work “to relieve the immense suffering of innocent Palestinians in Gaza who have experienced so much pain and loss” since last year’s attacks. In their shock rampage through Israeli towns and kibbutz villages near the Gaza border a year ago, Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people and took about 250 hostages back to Gaza, according to Israeli figures. The Hamas assault unleashed an Israeli offensive on Gaza that has largely flattened the densely populated enclave and killed almost 42,000 people, Palestinian health authorities say.
