Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts, spews glowing red lava in stunning Christmas display

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, in the Hawai’i National Volcanoes Park, erupted on Monday, and in a spectacular display, continued to spew glowing red lava like a fountain until Christmas Day. Known as the one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Kilauea has erupted dozens of times since 1952, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) – which captured stunning footage of the event. A volcano alert has since been lowered from warning to watch, and its aviation colour code from red to orange, and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports there are no immediate threats from the volcano.
