‘He’s an Australian citizen’: Labor MP welcomes Julian Assange’s release

Labor MP Andrew Charlton has welcomed Julian Assange’s release because he is “an Australian citizen”. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has returned to Australia as a free man after pleading guilty to espionage in a plea deal to secure his release. “Whatever you think of Julian Assange – whether he is a hero, whether he is a villain – one fact is true, and that is he is an Australian citizen,” Mr Charlton told Sky News Australia. “I don’t think this is so much about Julian Assange about the message it sends to the rest of us.”
