Fresh off the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week, efforts continue locally to debunk myths as health officials promote breastfeeding. The week was observed from August 1 to 7 under the theme "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All". Registered Nurse and Midwife in the Labour Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Nakeisha Scantlebury reiterated breastfeeding is best given the many benefits for the infant. She revealed some mothers shy away from breastfeeding over fears it will alter the appearance of their breasts. Ms. Scantlebury was a guest on CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados. Fellow Registered Nurse and Midwife, Krystal Holder says classes are being offered by the Antenatal Clinic to assist mothers.
