History created as Pic-O-De-Crop finalists announced
History has been created with the announcement of this year's 18 finalists for the Pic-O-De-Crop competition. In an unprecedented development, nine of the finalists are from one tent, the All Stars Calypso Tent, and among the 18 is a blind contender. The line up was decided through a draw this evening at Courtesy Garage. Those vying for the crown include a number of former and current Junior Calypso Monarchs. The show comes off at the National Botanical Gardens on August 2nd. Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation Carol Roberts says the competition is extremely important to the preservation of intangible aspects of the Crop Over Festival. To add a bit of spice to the pot, she announced the final competition will be broadcast live and free of cost. The winner will take home a 2024 e-powered Nissan X-Trail valued at $136,995 or a cash prize of $100,000.
