A new injection that prevents HIV is offering hope to South Africans in pilot projects. While preventative medication has been available, a big plus is the injection lasts for two months. South Africa has one of the highest rates of HIV in the world, with nearly eight million people living with the virus. While millions are being treated with antiretrovirals, there were no less than 160,000 new infections in 2022, according to UN data. So how effective and practical is the new option?
