HNATT, T&T's First Nutrition-Focused NGO, Kicks Off With Health Fair To Promote Wellness
It’s being hailed as the first dedicated nutrition Non-Governmental Organisation in Trinidad and Tobago, The Health and Nutrition Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HNATT) was launched on Saturday with its first official Health Fair at Skinner Park in San Fernando. HNATT Second Vice President, Dr. Brittany Deane, said the vision and mission for the NGO is encouraging people to be more in tune with themselves. "With their physical abilities as well as having a relationship with their foods because our health is our wealth right, and it's important for people to not just know about their health but understand it as well. So the entire premise of this event is not just to have people getting their blood pressure and getting their blood sugar checked, but it's about knowing your numbers and understanding those numbers." To this end, professionals in their fields contributed to fitness sessions, discussions on chronic diseases, men's mental health, and other wellness activities aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle. The NGO itself is being run by four young professionals and endorsing their initiative was Member of Parliament for San Fernando West, Faris Al-Rawi. "They look a little too good to be doing what they do. But this is an example of how young, patriotic, spirited people take their time and expertise literally to help other people. We are living in a world where not many people think about their neighbours or strangers. Nobody here is a family member of any one of these people, likely. But yet, after a busy work schedule of all that they do, they come out and they give of their time and energy for people. And that inspires me that Trinidad and Tobago has goodness in it." This inaugural Health Fair featured over 40 booths representing a wide range of health and nutrition entities.
