Mpox is rapidly spreading in parts of Central and East Africa, with the World Health Organization declaring a global public health emergency earlier this month. Outside Africa, the first case of infection with a new strain of the infectious disease was confirmed in Sweden last week. Asia is on high alert after the Philippines reported its first case of the year on Monday (Aug 19).
