Human Rights Watch says displacement of Palestinians in Gaza is "crime against humanity"
Human Rights Watch has released a damning new report that claims the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza is a “crime against humanity,” and alleges Israel has committed ethnic cleansing in some areas of the Gaza Strip. “In addition to forced displacement, there are certain areas of Gaza where the Israeli military has bulldozed entire areas, buffer zones, the Netzarim Corridor, areas around the border fence. And in these areas, Palestinians have been displaced and there’s been mass destruction of all civilian infrastructure in those areas,” said Adam Coogle, deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa division at Human Rights Watch. “In those areas, Israel has committed ethnic cleansing,” he said. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the report. Israel says it does not deliberately target civilians and blames Hamas for operating in residential areas. A spokesperson from the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) spokesperson said evacuation orders are issued to protect civilian lives.
